Life revolves around moments of opportunity. Many pivotal moments in our history have come from a Wistar scientist being in the right place in research at the right time and asking the questions that lead to the right answer.
The immediate opportunities of the Building Wistar, Changing the World campaign are clear. We must build a state-of-the-art research tower to support our engine of discovery, populate it with the best minds, and raise awareness about Wistar’s importance in the world.
Your investment will enable more eureka moments that lead to new treatments, preventions, and even cures. You will help Wistar attract and train the next generation of talent. Among the scores of individuals coming to our new expanded facility will be young people considering careers in science and medicine.
This opportunity will not come again in our lifetimes. We ask you to join us in raising $35 million for goals that hold the promise of a better future for millions. Everyone is a potential stakeholder in Wistar discovery science, but only a fortunate few can say that we seized this moment and changed the world.
The microscope in the image belonged to William E. Horner, M.D., a collaborator with Caspar Wistar, M.D., in the early 1800s.
Dr. Horner, a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, was a pioneer of the use of microscopes in anatomical and medical research. He authored Special Anatomy and Histology, a seminal text on the subject.
