About the Author:
Author of five books, Philip J. Hilts has been a prize-winning health and science reporter for TheNew York Times and The Washington Post. His most recent book, Protecting America 's Health: The FDA, Business, and One Hundred Years of Regulation , was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and the 2003 winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Science and Technology. Hilts has also taught journalism to graduate students at Boston University and undergraduates at the University of Botswana.
