| Journalist Maryn McKenna provides the first-ever inside look at the elite corps of “diseases detectives” at the CDC, specially trained doctors and scientists who stand ready to confront emerging diseases and bioterror threats worldwide. In the 53 years since this group, the Epidemic Intelligence Service, was founded, its members have been the first on the scene of outbreaks of AIDS, Ebola, hantavirus, monkeypox, SARS, and anthrax.
|
| McKenna is an award-winning science and medical writer at the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution, where she has covered the CDC since 1997. A graduate of Georgetown University and the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University, she has also studied at Harvard Medical School. In 1998-99, she was the Knight Fellow in Medicine at the University of Michigan’s Schools of Medicine and Public Health.
The Joseph Fox Bookshop will provide
books for sale at the event.
