Vaccine for Human Papilloma
Virus
Inventors:
Hildegund
Ertl and James Wilson
Tech ID:
EH-94144, EH-98001
Description:
Effective vaccination to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) early antigens
that are expressed in these cervical cancers is a potential strategy
to treat or prevent HPV-induced cervical cancer. Wistar scientists
have developed an adenovirus-based vaccine that, in animal studies,
induces a protective response to HPV and protection against challenge
with tumors that express the E6 and E7 antigens of HPV. When administered
intranasally as part of a prime-boost regimen this adenovirus-based
vaccine produces a mucosal immune response that can be detected
in vaginal lavages.
This vaccine has been tested in rodent animal
studies only. Wistar is seeking a corporate partner to develop the
vaccine, including the design and conduct of clinical trials.
Key Words:
Vaccine, cancer, human papilloma virus
Applications
and Advantages: This vaccine and immunization method may
be useful to prevent and treat HPV infection, which is a causative
agent of cervical cancer.
