A Specific Fund
You may direct your tax-deductible donation
to a specific research program, or you may establish a named fund.
Research Areas
Cancer Research (Breast, Brain, Prostate, etc.)
Immunology (Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc.)
Infectious Disease (Influenza, AIDS, Rabies, etc.)
Where the Need is Greatest
Named Funds
Named Restricted Funds -
On occasion, supporters of The Wistar Institute have had the desire
to make meaningful gifts to funds identified with specific diseases
and/or individuals. Funds may be established for a variety of reasons
and may be named to honor or memorialize a loved one. The minimum
gift to establish such a fund is $25,000. Examples of
different types of funds include:
Named Endowed Funds - These funds are established to support ongoing efforts at the Institute. The minimum for establishing an endowed
fund is $100,000.
In an endowed fund the principal is not used. Examples of different endowed funds include:
Endowed Professorships - funds the recruitment
of a scientist to conduct research at The Wistar Institute. The
minimum for establishing a professorship is $1.5 million.
The principal on these funds is not spent however the earnings on these philanthropic investments is used to offset laboratory expenses associated with the faculty member who is holding this appointment. Listed below are three such endowed professorships.
Recognizing Your Gift
We recognize that charitable giving is very personal and will honor the wishes of those who give anonymously. We do make every attempt to recognize those donors who give $100 and up in our Annual Report. Additionally for those who give $1,000 and over we will place your name on our Wall of Honor which is located in the atrium of the main building of the Institute. For those whose cumulative giving is greater than $10,000 we will permanently place their names in a separate special category of our Wall of Honor, as listed below:
- Guarantor - $10,000 to $49,999
- Patron - $50,000 to $99,999
- Centennial Society - $100,000 to $499,999
- Isaac Wistar Society - $500,000 to $999,999
- President's Council - $1 million and above
In addition there may be certain instances where someone is interested in creating a specific fund or endowment program. We are available to discuss these possibilities and have several such funds already in existence.
Finally the acknowledgment of gifts is done in a timely and courteous manner and we consider this the responsibility and duty of the Development office and would welcome any suggestions or concerns regarding this process.
