Today's brilliant image is of an anglerfish ovary, taken by Wistar's own James Hayden, the Imaging Facility Director. This image was awarded fourth place in the 2009 competition. (James used a 2-channel microscope, autofluorescence, 4X objective.)

This is a taste of how microscopy can bring amazing images to life. In the Nikon Small World Exhibition, the world’s best photomicrographers have captured dynamic images that showcase a wide variety of advanced scientific disciplines.

The exhibit of winning images from Nikon’s 2011 Small World photography contest gives you a glimpse into a world that most have never seen—the intersection of art and science as viewed through the lens of a microscope.

The Wistar Institute is the only local host of the Nikon Small World exhibition.

This free exhibit is open to the public from February 6 through March 2, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
