Breaking Ground

On September 23, 2011, The Wistar Institute will break ground to make way for a new seven-story research tower that will fuel our engine of discovery for decades to come.

The research tower will feature with five floors of flexible, open laboratory space that supports collaboration and innovation. Multidisciplinary teams of researchers will work in these labs, using next generation scientific equipment and facilities. The expansion will enable Wistar to recruit new researchers to diversify its faculty, matching current strengths with new and complementary expertise in emerging fields of discovery.

At the street level, the public will enter a welcoming home of 21st century science. User-friendly public spaces will convey an immediate sense of access. A 200-seat auditorium for scientific symposia and public events will connect more people, school-age to seniors, to the language of science.

This project will create 383 construction jobs and 100 research and administration jobs.
