The Wistar Institute is located in University City in West Philadelphia. If you are planning to visit, please refer to this page as a guide to using public and private transportation.
Note: Directions have been updated in response to the closure of the South Street Bridge.

From the Philadelphia International Airport

• SEPTA Airport Express Train
  The Airport Express Train leaves 9 minutes after every half hour, and will take you to the University City Station on Convention Ave. The fare is $7.00 and the ride takes 18 minutes to the University City Station.
  
  
• Taxis
  A metered taxicab costs about $30.00 and the ride takes about 20 minutes.
  

By Car

• From the Northeast via the New Jersey Turnpike South
  Use Exit 4. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia and Ben Franklin Bridge. After crossing the bridge take I-676 West, to I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F. Kennedy Blvd. Merge right onto Market Street. Turn left onto 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. The Wistar Institute is located on the corner of 36th and Spruce Streets, which will be on your right.
  
  
• From the West via the Pennsylvania Turnpike
  On the PA turnpike, use Exit 326, the Valley Forge Interchange. Take I-76 East for approximately 17 miles. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F. Kennedy Blvd. Merge right onto Market Street. Turn left onto 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. The Wistar Institute is located on the corner of 36th and Spruce Streets, which will be on your right.
  
  
• From the North via I-95 South
  Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia Exit. Follow signs to I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway. Take I-676 West until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F. Kennedy Blvd. Merge right onto Market Street. Turn left onto 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. • From the South via I-95 North
  Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia Exit which is approximately 7 miles north of the airport. Follow I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway, until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F. • From I-76 West (DETOUR ROUTE)
  Follow I-76 West to the 30th Street Station Exit. Make a left at Market Street. Take Market Street to 34th Street and turn left on 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. The Wistar Institute is located on the corner of 36th and Spruce Streets, which will be on your right.
  
  
• From I-76 East (DETOUR ROUTE)
  Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F. Kennedy Blvd. Merge right onto Market Street. Turn left onto 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. The Wistar Institute is located on the corner of 36th and Spruce Streets, which will be on your right.
  
  
• From South Street, East of the Schuylkill River (non-highway route) (DETOUR ROUTE)
  Take South Street to 22nd Street. Turn onto 22nd Street and continue to Walnut. Turn left onto Walnut Street. Make a left turn onto 34th Street then turn right onto Spruce Street. The Wistar Institute is located on the corner of 36th and Spruce Streets, which will be on your right.

• Parking in West Philadelphia
  There are ten, public pay parking facilities located within walking distance of the Institute. Metered pay parking is available on many city streets.

• Arriving by Amtrak
  

All Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains stop at 30th Street Station. From the station, the Institute is a fifteen-minute walk. A metered taxicab costs about $8 including tip and takes about 5 minutes.

• Arriving by SEPTA Regional Rail at 30th Street Station
  

The SEPTA No. 30 bus runs from the station to University City. The fare is $2 and exact change is required. The ride takes 8 minutes and stops at the Civic Center Boulevard and University Avenue.

From 30th Street Station, one may take the R1, R2, or R3 railroad lines, the distance of one stop, to the University City Station (behind the Penn Tower Hotel).

• From Greyhound Trailways Bus Terminal
  The Bus Terminal is located at 11th & Filbert streets in Center City, Philadelphia. Exit the terminal and walk 1 block south to Market Street to board the Market/Frankford subway, to 34th and Market Streets. The fare is $2 (exact change is required). From 34th and Market Streets, the Institute is a 10 minute walk to 36th and Spruce Streets. Alternatively, you may transfer from the Market Frankford Line at 30th Street Station to the Subway/Surface trolley (routes 11, 13, 34 or 36) and stop at 37th and Spruce streets. The fare is $2 (exact change is required). A metered cab costs about $12.00.
