Caspar Wistar Fellows Program

The Caspar Wistar Fellows Program is designed to offer exceptional autonomy and resources to recent Ph.D. or M.D. graduates with outstanding research records, who are prepared to take an accelerated path toward independence as principal investigators and join the next generation of scientific leaders.

Caspar Wistar Fellows are appointed for a three-year term with the possibility of extending or being considered for promotion. As part of their recruitment, they receive start-up funds to support their lab and hire a laboratory member and have unfettered access to the state-of-the-art shared resources at the Institute.

Ideal candidates for the Program possess superior research credentials and demonstrated intellectual drive, a particularly creative and innovative research proposal, strong motivation, and demonstrated capacity to conduct research with minimal supervision.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate in biomedical sciences, medicine or a related field within five years of application deadline.

  • Research proposed must be related to the core research priorities of the Institute: cancer biology, immunology and/or infectious disease. Fellows join either Wistar’s NCI-designated Ellen and Ronald Caplan Cancer Center or the Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center, depending on the focus of their research.
Expanding the Caspar Wistar Fellows Program
