Review
The Wistar Library provides information services
to research faculty, visiting scientists, staff and students working
at The Wistar Institute as its primary mission. Active support of
the research and educational goals of the Institute directs all
library collections, policies and services. To that end, our collections
and services are structured around the current research activities
of our scientific staff. Searchers wishing to locate information
on particular diseases, treatments or general medical questions
should utilize the web site of the National Library of Medicine
to search PubMed
(www.nlm.nih.gov) for further literature.
The Wistar Library is a "net lender" in the National Network
of Libraries of Medicine, Region I, which is sponsored by the National
Library of Medicine. A recent grant from the State Library of Pennsylvania
has enabled us to further our educational mission through support
for entering our scientific library holdings into the AccessPA database
which is searchable at Pennsylvania Public Libraries (access code
"Wistar Inst SP"). Interlibrary loan services are available
to public and school libraries (click on the ILL button) and to
the general public under our lending policies and guidelines - please
click on the appropriate button at right to view those guidelines.
Our Archives and the Wistar Museum Collection are under the umbrella
of the Wistar Library. Reference questions and arrangements for
accessing historical collections should be directed to the appropriate
person by clicking on the buttons at the right.
The Wistar Library provides access to electronic information resources
through its internal web site for staff only. We reserve the right
to limit interlibrary loan and photocopy services which may result
in an infringement of copyright. Please note that The Wistar Press
is no longer in existence at The Wistar Institute. Wistar Press
titles are now handled by Wiley-Liss and Sons, Publishers, New York.
Questions and copyright releases which relate to the Wistar Press
titles prior to 1980 should be directed to the Archivist - click
on the copyright release form at right.
