The 15th annual Albert R. Taxin Golf & Bridge Classic raised more than $110,000 to advance brain tumor research at the Albert R. Taxin Brain Tumor Research Center at The Wistar Institute. The Classic, which included an American Contract Bridge League-sanctioned duplicate bridge tournament, was held May 3 at Green Valley Country Club, in Lafayette Hill, Pa. More than 180 friends and supporters of The Wistar Institute participated in the event, including 2010 event chair Fran Tobin; founder and honorary chair Doris Taxin; and Wistar President and CEO Russel E. Kaufman, M.D.

The Classic honors the memory of Albert R. Taxin, who died in 1993 at the age of 53 of an inoperable and incurable brain tumor. Taxin was the long-time proprietor of Old Original Bookbinder's restaurant. The Albert R. Taxin Golf and Bridge Classic remains a wonderful opportunity to get together and remember Albert, but at the heart of the event is raising important funds for brain tumor research. Since its inception, the Classic has raised $1.3 million for brain tumor research at Wistar. Thanks to the generosity and support of our past sponsors, progress has been made in better understanding the scientific challenges brain tumors create.
