Gene Expression and Regulation

Gene Expression and Regulation Program members are engaged in identifying genes and genetic mechanisms involved in cancer and other diseases, with a particular focus on gene regulation. The program is a comprehensive one, combining the power of genetic studies in yeast and fruit flies with the sophisticated tools of biochemistry and structural biology to investigate the molecular organization of gene-transcription complexes and DNA packaging structures, such as histones and chromatin. Studies include work on the role of histone modification through acetylation and phosphorylation in gene regulation, transcription factors and their role in aberrant gene regulation in tumors, the biological relevance of macromolecular transcriptional complexes, chromosome stability in tumors, and the crystal structure of transcription factors and complexes.
