A bold future with global benefits

Three years ago, The Wistar Institute set out on an ambitious campaign: BOLD in its goals, GLOBAL in its impact. The results are transformative.

Now we celebrate the success of Wistar’s Bold Science // Global Impact Campaign – the largest campaign in Wistar’s 130+ year history, raising more than $67 million. Thank you to all who have helped Wistar Science continue improving the future of human health long into the future.

Dario Altieri, M.D.

“I have been deeply honored to serve as Chairman of what has now become the most successful fundraising endeavor in the Institute’s history with more than $67 million raised. Not only did it break Wistar records, the Bold Science // Global Impact Campaign demonstrated that there continues to be a growing recognition that basic research is worthy of transformative charitable support. Among the many noble and worthwhile non-profit organizations and causes in Philadelphia and well-beyond, Wistar has solidified its place as an institution that individuals, grantmakers and others want to lift up, promote and invest in.”

– Ron Caplan, Bold Science//Global Impact Committee Chair

Watch to learn what this Campaign means for Wistar Science

This was our first gift to The Wistar Institute. We were struck by the idea that our support would be part of something so much larger than funding a single project or helping one person at a time. For us it’s about empowering brilliant scientists whose work has the potential to transform countless lives and the hope that we can open doors to knowledge that will change the world. It’s amazing to think our support could play even a small role in the process of discovering something transformative at any point in the future and it’s inspiring to see so many others who share that belief and are part of this mission too. We’re honored to be part of that hope and possibility.

“For Wistar, philanthropy is not a celebration of things past—instead, it is promise and hope for the future. For a future filled with knowledge, discovery and innovation. A future of new medicines for patients with cancer and infectious diseases, a future of opportunities for students and trainees of all backgrounds, and a future of collaboration and partnership to bring about those research breakthroughs that will benefit all.”

“We know that Wistar’s success will never be limited by a lack of curiosity, innovation, determination or resilience. Our impact and reach will only ever be constrained by the resources needed to put that curiosity, and those boundless ideas, into action. The success of the Bold Science//Global Impact Campaign will catapult Wistar forward in ways that could not have otherwise been possible.”

What’s Next?

Wistar researchers are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in biomedical research to tackle some of the world’s deadliest diseases and viruses. Whether it’s pursuing a potential cure for HIV, researching new therapies  to fight glioblastoma, or understanding how Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) can lead to cancer or autoimmune disorders, our scientists remain focused on breakthrough early-stage discoveries that improve human health.
